The Anatomy of NYPD Crime Records

Introduction

This is a continuous study based on the two research me and my previous team have been done so far. In the first research we have proven the intergroup solidarity, felt and shared foreignness between Asians and HIspanics in the U.S. Then in the second research, we assumed they are under the similar social pressure and tried to testify a similar crime behavior patterns in NYC by checking the correlation based on their crime amounts and types distribution but we rejected the hypothesis. So in this project, our goal is to analyze and understand NYC Crime attributes in a more unbiased way by setting no hypothesis, targeting all races, using more data analysis techniques thus directly explaining the data.

Methods

  • Conducted Cluster Analysis on NYPD crime data, and identified the most dangerous regions in each borough for different races.
  • Conducted Cluster Analysis on NYPD crime data, and identified the most dangerous regions in each borough for different races.
  • Built Bayesian Network to determine the relationship between different features of a crime suspect. Identified and visualized top five factors and their relationships to each other.
